Afternoon light and reflections on Yosemite's merced River. I hope you enjoy it, and thank you for your thoughts. Large version included. How's the color/white balance? This one seems to be giving me a bit of a challenge.

D200,
18-70mm,
.8sec, F/27, aperture and +2 exposure bias to extend exposure for water movement.

Thanks,
Chris

WB and colors look fine friom here.
Very peaceful winter scene - love the puffs of snow on the rocks and the water flow.

I'm on my bad laptop, so my color isn't that great. Maybe the blues are stronger in certain areas compared to other areas, can't really say though. I do like this comp though, good separation between all important elements.

Seems to me that the crop is too tight? The blues are strong too. Exposures and movement along the water are the interesting part of the image to me, but it's hard when my eye keeps going back to the cubes. It could also be that the main foreground rock is too centered.

I like the composition and the SS you chose for the water. I also like the hanging icicles. The blues might be a bit strong for my taste.

At work, so I can't help with the WB/color, but the comp is great and shutter speed excellent. Very nicely captured.

Chris,

If I'm not mistaken, you had a post up originally that if I'm remembering right was slightly bluer than this one? The image disappeared and then came back a short time later.

Regardless, excellent job with this capture in a few respects. While there is a bit of blue here, I think it's well within the range of believability and choice. Secondly I'm impressed that you were able to hold detail in the snow caps; nice textures in there and I like the color too. Lastly, while the two big snow-covered rocks are somewhat heavy in the frame, I think the flow of the river around and through the image does a great job of balancing the composition out.

Excellent work all the way around.

Snow is reflective so it's maybe picking up sky color, but it's a realistic white with just the slightest blue cast. The water at your SS is definitely showing motion, as for rocks being heavy that's what they are. Ah well personal preferences....

The snow-capped rocks are a nice feature that add some focus and calmness to a slightly busy comp. WB-wise, I could see experimenting a little warmer as the water textures feels a bit too cyan. Could also see burning the top highlight edge and dodging out the textured water highlights. Hope that's not too much.

Beautiful, Chris. Love the composition with the placement of the rocks and the arc of the cascades winging through the frame. Excellent textures in the snow and wonderful color. Love it. Well done.

Hey Chris,

The comp works very well for me, everything is arranged just about perfectly and the details are great. This looks a little blue to my eyes. WB aside, it's not really hitting any emotional chords with me, and I can't articulate why

Hey Chris, the WB looks fine to me. I like the intimate feel of this image and the textures in the water are great. There appears to be a little dust spot right above the portruding rock in the LRHC.

Okay,
I went ahead and added a duplicate layer, then B&W conversion at 20% to try and neutralize more of the blue. Dodged the white water, and burned the snow reflections along the upper edge.

Thanks

Repost is definitely better, IMO. Much better overall balance with element with the water textured dodged lighter. I like the slightly warmer color balance too, but also the fact there is still an overall blueness tint to things.

Really nice light in this one, Chris. The WB looks good on my dinosaur of a monitor, too. Another excellent effort by you! Beautiful shot.
