I'm one of the few that switched from digital back to film. I feel more at home with large format. This was taken last February. In a couple days, I'm heading back to Death Valley for more shooting.

Hello Ben, nice to meet you on-line here at NPN. Glad to see you've made the transition over to the world of large format, and of course the Dark Slide....

Is that a large format speaker in your ear?

Way too serious Ben - it's like you're contemplating the origins of the universe....

Nice to meet you - have enjoyed a number of your videos. Impressive use of the 8x10, although I see your sporting a little 4x5 here....

all in good fun - glad you're here. I enjoy your work.

Hi Ben! Nice looking rig! The LF really is a world of its own--glad you're among us!

Hey, Lon: The distance between the rails and the size of the back (compared to the lens board) lead me to believe that the camera is 8x10.

What say you, Ben?

Hope your trip to DV was successful!

Thanks all. The trip went well. I definitely did quite a bit of shooting, but not as much as I would have liked. I love being able to take at least one shot each day, but sometimes that doesn't happen.

To give a sense of scale, the tripod in the background is a big 5 series gitzo. That is indeed my 8x10 cam, but the scale is certainly misleading. I also use a 4x5, but it's a metal Toyo field camera.

Ben,

You do look serious, but then Film, especially format is "serious" photography. In order to enjoy you need to be that way about the whole process and your craft and creativity. I'm one of those instant gratification digital guys, but I certainly do appreciate the depth of commitment and the the history behind format going all the way back to the "wet plate" era. Do like your imagery and insightful comments.
