WC465 Mr. Mom

I was standing near the window and saw this Cardinal "Daddy" feeding his 2 babies.

Although I wish I could sharpen them and bokeh the background...I think I did OK shooting through double paned glass. One of the reasons they are not sharp is that I was so excited, that I could not hold the camera still!

I had never seen this behavior before. But, I looked online and got more info. It seems that the mother Cardinal can lay 2 sets of eggs in a short time span. So, when one brood is hatching, the other brood are fledglings. So, Mr. Mom takes over and brings them to my feeder. There he gets one seed at a time and feeds the babies.

Pretty cool!

Some interesting behavior--nice catch, Lucy! Not sure about the 'first impression' part though...

This is the first time I'd ever seen this behavior, much less photographed it. It definitely left me with an "Awww" first impression.. Does that count?.

Even through the glass it can be appreciated. My little experence with Cardinals is that they have a pretty tight family. Never seen the feeding .
