Siskiwit Falls

This fall picture was made at Siskiwit Falls just before the river runs in to Lake Superior. This river and falls is just outside of Cornucopia, and that is the most northern town in Wisconsin. With grey sky showing in the upper middle of the scene I decided to crop to this pano format, although I hated to loose the upper part of the trees. The red maple leaf was actually there in that position, so I didn't have to do that. Compression is hurting this quite a bit. I had to save for web at a setting of 40 to get to the size limits.

Nik - The water exposure looks perfect for me - though the left side pales in interest compared to th right side. Have you considered a crop? Another option might have been to move closer to the falls to include more of them and the colorful background. Maybe a vertical zoom to avoid the grey skies and keep the water and colorful trees? :toast:

Definitely my kind of shot. I think the colors here look great. The right side of the image is several stop lighter than the left side, I am not sure if that was done on purpose or just the way the light was. I am ok with it, I do suggest to bring out the shadow detail a little more under the large rock with the red leaf hanging of it.

I also somewhat concur wiith Harry's crop suggestion from the left. (Although I really like the scene the way it is too) Anyways, I really appreciate the topographical description of the scene. It sure helps to give me a vivid imagination of being there. Looks like an amazing place!

Very tranquil scene Nick. I can hear that water running over the falls, sweet. Lots to look at here too, you framed the falls in the background perfectly through the tress's. The grey skies sure provided you with some soft lighting that compliments the scene beautifully. The only thing I would have liked seen is the whiter water not being cut off but that's me and my OCD. Cheers

Thanks guys for your comments so far. I appreciate your good sugestions and thoughts with this. The left side of this was in quite a bit of shadow and I did crop some of it out already. I also had more on the bottom in the original shot but some blurry weeds had me cropping that also. Didn't think I could clone them out and make it look good. I do look forward to shooting this again this fall keeping your suggestions in mind. Thanks much, Nick

Very pretty fall river scene Nick, love the water motion and the colors look great. I would have to agree a slight crop from the left might help out, most of the interest is on the right hand side. Either way a nice capture.

I don't miss the sky here, but maybe some more colorful treetops. It certainly is beautiful the way it is. I'd love to have scenery like this close to home.

A beautiful warm pallette Nick and nice composition. The two trees on the right are really attractive and help balance out the scene. I might crop just a bit off the left.

Lovely, Nick! I like the way that you composed the wateralls dagonally.
Good color throughout and that's a nice touch with the FG leavs on the
rocks. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful shot Nick. A crop from the left might improve this but it's great as is. The details are still very nice at 40%. These are my favorite types of scenes. Well done. :toast:
