Snow, Wind and Cold

I have started a project for the year. There are several wildlife management areas near Scottsbluff. There are not trails or facilities, just wild. Big Horn Sheep and Elk have been reintroduced and there are Mountain Lion and other wildlife in the area. I have chosen one of the areas, Cedar Canyon and I am going to go there at two days a week, every week I am in town, for a year and document the area in pictures. I don't know for sure where the project will go, but there are some possibilities. If nothing else I hope to improve my my photographic and artistic skills by working the same place all the time. I was there last Thursday. It was in the 20's but the wind was really blowing. As I was leaving about mid-morning I thought I need to try and document these conditions. Here is one of my attempts. The grasses are bending, there is motion blur in the Yuccas and the snow is blowing through the picture, plus, I hope, the the feeling of the wide open spaces. I would appreciate all comments on how this works.

I like this! Very appealing light and an interesting composion. I feel part of the scene. Yes this works really well for me. Great idea for a project. I also have one project ongoing. It is a nice thing to work for a self assigned goal because it adds another level of purpose to your photography. You will approach the location with a different mindset.

Richard, good idea to dog one place at a time. Each day you go there you'll see something different, I know I do in the Glades.
You've captured the wide open feel in this image.

You captured the atmosphere in a striking way! The light and the colors are very consistent. My only desire would be more space at the top; and maybe a faster shutter speed to avoid the motion blur in the foreground.

I am looking foreward to your project!

I like this a lot. Unconventionally interesting. A lot to explore throughout.

I think it needs some room at the top. I'm also not a fan of the FG elements being in the corners. I like the light and sense of openess. :toast:

First off, I think .it's a GREAT idea. There will be times when it looks just like the last time, and that's when you will have to work to come up with something new, and that will push you to find new ways of seeing it. I applaud you for having the energy and commitment to do this :toast:
OK now for comments on this image. I really like the sharpness of the spikes against the curvy snow banks. I am bothered by how close the bluff tops are to the top of the image. I think it really needs more room there. You may not have liked the whiteish sky; how about trying this in B&W? It has some pretty strong lines. Also, those few pieces of grass OOF in the FG are a tiny bit distracting. All that said, I like this image; it makes me feel like I'm actually there and walking through that snow. This seems like a tough exposure situation and you did an excellent job on that, too. Looking forward to more of these.... :toast:
