The Cedar Waxwings are still in my local area, although I haven't seen any today so far...
I shot this one yesterday morning during the "golden" hour around 10:30
F/8, 1/400th, ISO 640, Canon 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + Kenko 2x tele.
80% of FF.

Good one! The water drop on the chin is fantastic. The rings in the water- you can still see where his beak went in.

Nice job getting the pair together. The water drip from the open mouth and water rings add interest and the detail is very nice. The little white dots above the second birds head are a little distracting but that could easily be fixed.

Uniique opportunity beautifully captured. I like the way the focus is sharp on the front bird and less so on the background bird. Techs look good. :toast: :toast:

Very interesting, Howard. Great pose. Fitting title! I too like the way you used DOF here. However, I might be tempted to place more emphasis on the gargler perhaps by some selective exposure changes. I think that the shot should have more impact than it currently does....although it is still a fine shot! :toast:

Nice one, Howard. The detail really comes through in the larger version, and the pose is excellent. :toast:

Howard,
I am going to be really pickey - only because I think that this one is very special. The bright spots above the second bird are a bit destracting for me. Love the pose, eye contact, water movement, water drop, oof bird, comp, exposure and colors! Premo!!!

I've used the Viveza 2 and applied a 15% brightness around most of the subject.
Some points of light above the second bird as well...
