This was taken on a Texas ranch and to me looks as it would have 150 years in the past.

There is a nice contrast of the dark bison against the lighter grass, but the subject is too centred, in my opinion, and a little too dark. Maybe, adding a little bit of light to the face will bring out more details there.

Really nice bison shot, brings up images of the real old west. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Jack,

Nice to see the larger size(s) - now your images have a better chance at looking their best! Technically this image looks quite solid - nicely exposed, sharp, and with a good depth of field. I tend to agree with Ajit on the composition - perhaps a tad too centered for my taste, but this is purely an issue of personal preference. I think there might be room to "pull out" a little more shadow detail on the bison itself, but wouldn't want to see the rest of the image lightened up any more (i.e., a selective and careful increase of exposure on the bison itself).

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Nice pose, and I like the natural habitat. I think it might look like one thousand years ago. :toast:

Really healthy looking animal and a fine shot. Bison are difficult to shoot because of how dark the forequarters/face are, but this looks really good to me, and natural.

I agree with the suggestions and some boost in saturation will definitely help.

I agree it does have a timeless feel to it. I like the soft grass contrasting with the dark bison but he looks a bit over sharpened on this monitor. I'm fine with the comp, but others would work well too.

Nice shot you ha ve here Jack. If this were mine, I would bring up the shadows a touch and crop off a sliver on the right to make this one less centered. If you bring it to a 4x5, I think it would look great!
