Ibis with Crawfish

Sugar Land TX 12/26/2010

D3 ISO 200. 300/2.8 with 2x tc f5.6 1/2500s -1.0ev. About 50% FF.

A large flock of Ibises were fishing the shoreline of a creek about a mile from my house. Occasionally one would come up with one of these large crawfish. When they did they would take off running away from the water and several would follow trying to steal it.

The base of a tree trunk was cloned out from behind the bird.

Cool! Love the details in the whites of the Ibis, nicely done! Great job with the crawdad as well. :toast:

Wonderful capture, Angela. We can clearly see the crawfish and, I'm not sure, but it seems to me that we can even detect some concern in the eye of the bird about its prey escaping. Excellent exposure. Beautiful detail. Maybe a little bit crowded in the frame. :toast:

Sweet catch - nice exposure. These birds are always so hard to get with decent backgrounds that aren't mowed grass

Wonderful detail Angela, especially the water droplets on the head and neck feathers. The pensive look is priceless.

Cool shot Angela, the Ibis looks like he has a sharp eye on those pinchers. I love the detail in this shot, especially on the large image and the eye color is sweet.

Nicely done, Angela. You did very well exposing all of that white against a darkish bg, and that can be tough. I suspect that you had some soft overcast skies? The crawfish is sure a bonus! My only nit is that it feels a bit tight to me. I would open this up just a little. Perhaps a 60 or 65 percent crop, instead of a 50%. I have never seen one of these guys, I sure would like to. Thanks for posting.

The shadows are quite dark Angela, but the net effect is very pleasing regardless. Love the detail and color on the beak and eye. Good job! :toast:

Great image. Well exposed & sharp details. Great use of F/5.6 to isolate the bird in your frame also..
I especially like the LP clearly showing the crawfish pleading for its life
Well done Angela :toast:

Angela,

This is beauty. I love the eyes of the Ibis and you managed to capture some great feather detail on a difficult bird. The crawfish is still alive and wiggling to escape.

Hi Angela,

Really like the details on the body of the Ibis as well as the separation between BG and bird.

Nicely done,

Carol
