White Mountains sunset

I took this image on December 26 while in Mammoth Lakes, CA. It was 23 degrees outside during this magical sunset, looking east toward the White Mountains. Both the sky, and the December record snowfall below, lit up and fortunately lasted long enough before my fingers froze.

I used a Canon 60D with a Tamron 18-270 lens. ISO 400, 1/80 sec at f/8.0.

You will notice the January calendar on the lower right as I send out monthly calendars to friends for them to use as desktop wallpaper.

I would love any comments you may have.

Many thanks and Happy New Year to all. :toast:

Beautiful scene and very nice light. I do find the calendar to be distracting, but the scene is wonderful.

The scene looks wonderful. Nice palette of color. Nice that you send out monthly calendars to friends, but I find the calendar here to be very distracting.

That's great. Can you imagine how fast your fingers would freeze if you were standing atop those mountains? :)

Gorgeous light. I really like the scene. Do you have the calendar as a layer? Should be easy to strip off.

Hi Tony: In a word, I don't have the layers on this image. I ALWAYS keep layers and save them so I can have the image without the calendar, but in my haste to do all my backing up and transferring photos to various external hard drives at year end, I screwed up and deleted the layered image and saved the one with the calendar. There are always lessons to be learned, and adhered to!

Pretty scene. (Given the telephone poles and the cabin, seems like it ought to have been in M&N)

Howdy Frank! Glad to see you posting here! This shot is just wonderful. The colors are great and I love the simple layering composition leading up to the splendor of the sky. At its best, you really can't beat the light in the Eastern Sierras!
