Warming Light
by Kent Mearig
While I'm not sure I ever ended up breaking through the plateau of satisfying imagery to make a photo of lasting consequence (for me personally), the final weeks of 2010 were remarkably fruitful in terms of being in unique and beautiful settings and coming home with a record worth sharing (or many). I hope it won't be too long before 2011 yields the same.

The deep color in those massive chunks of ice are incredible. I'd question the intensity of the color if the rest of the image wasn't so darn naturally perfect.
Sure looks like treacherous going around there, but you certainly came back with a worthy capture. No nits from me.

Stan - I had another photo where the icebergs were more prominent (which I did like), but the the overall composition was far less cohesive. I'm satisfied with the way the blue faces compliment the rest of the scene in this version.
Richard - I wish that fresh snow were still around instead of the thirty-eight degree rain we have instead.
Dorin - The light was making me feel happy at the time. It was the first day in weeks where the sun actually felt "warm" on my shoulders.
Lon - When the blocks of ice are interspersed with standing water and slush under some of the snow, I get mighty timid, but experience tells me when things will be safe enough (99.99% of the time).
