Another of the male.
As I have said before- front on views are not always appealing but maybe the big beak lets this get away with it.
Same set up. Bedroom window. Getting these to sunflower at last now most of the berries have gone, but bird watchers spoiling things.
Worked out it takes the bird about a minute to crack a Sloe berry kernal.

Nice shot. The front on shot works for me. I think the detail in the face mask and the beak can only be captured with this composition. I like the detail in the branches too.

I don't know about front-on views not being appealing, John. I think it works well here. Those bird watchers are a nuisance though aren't they?

Hi John

I agree in many cases front views of birds often don't work but because of the large bill and strong facial markings this works fine. The reflected light from the snow on the ground has also added to the image.

Recently I have enjoyed some face on images. They work better on some birds than others I think the facial markings work very well here. Consistently busy background dont distract as much.Very nice. Hope there is more to come. :toast:

A more portrait crop would be more appealing to me , not sure about the front on view ..

What a fantastic series John. I'd be pleased with anything half as good, in fact seeing one would be something! :toast: :toast:
