Barn Owl

Well I have been trying to get on top of all the unprocessed files I have so here's another one of the barn owl I had the pleasure to see, light was difficult this was shot at 1600 ISO, so reluctant to sharpen anymore, I just liked the eye contact in this one, some will not like the wire but it was there and thats where the owl perched so to me its not a problem, although I do love it when they perch without wire in the shot.Am hoping on improving my barn owl shots with two visits planned soon so fingers crossed for better light, will certainly be putting the hours in.

Canon 1DMK4, Canon 500f4L + 1.4 convertor, ISO 1600, f5.6, 1/250

Looks fine for 1600 iso . I'd be inclined to slice a touch off right . the grass stalks being so bright do pull the eye a touch .

Just lovely!
I am SO envious of all you guys over there getting these great (live!) barn owl shots..
The light here is wonderful, the pose and gaze and grasses just beautiful.

Another great shot Karen, but the plain wire takes the edge off I think.
I know theres not much you can do about that though.
Looks like they forgot to staple the wire too !!

I like it as it is, the wire supports the composition I find.

Hello Karen.

Looks good for iso 1600 and I think marks crop idea as made an improvement.

You seem to be getting good results from your 1D MK 1V , I'm not very pleased with mine and I dont like it past iso 400.

Hi Karen

Very nice especially for 1600iso I know what John means re the wire but the grasses for me help take your eye away from it.

thanks everyone, Guy to be honest if i have to use 1600 iso I usually don t even bother its just when its a barn owl just sitting looking at me I can t resist, the results are not the best and will win no prizes but like I said I am a sucker for a barn owl so I give it a go

Very nice good pose and the dark background sets off very well. I didnt think 1600 was pushing that camera hard and the image looks fine as is. I guess shooting white birds against a dark backdrop makes limiting noise a bigger issue.Good luck with your planned trips.

For me the grass stalks add something to the pic, like Roman spears. Top shot Karen :toast: :toast:

That looks lovely to me and the iso doesn't bother me at all. I bet this would print well enough. If it bothers you, you might have tried dropping the iso and the speed once you had a few in the bag - bird willing of course. You must be getting pretty pleased with your portfolio these days - you have some fine images.

ISO 1600 on a 1D4 - you must be mad! Its worked out alright though hasn't it! I don't like using mine above ISO 800 (normally a lot less). I think the recrop makes for a better image too.
