Smooth-billed Ani

One of the wonderful things about my job is the ability to travel to many distant and exotic locales and bring my photo gear; one of the negatives is having to travel over the holidays. This image was captured in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic on Christmas morning. I had been walking the grounds near the hotel and came across several of these Smooth-bills.

Thanks for looking, and Happy New Year.

Very well done. It looks like you were shooting towards the light and were able to maintain details in the blacks. Thanks for sharing.

Nice inquisitive pose on this guy, and agreed, you did a nice job getting detail in the blacks, shooting against the bright background.

A great bird Chuck. A nice exposure for sure under difficult lighting it looks like. We used to have a few of these in S. FL, but I can't find them now. I think they have been extirpated from the state.

Fine clear shot of this bird, Chuck. We can see the whole bird, including that extended tail. Nice detail too, especially the feathers reflecting light on the wing. :toast:
Happy New Year to you too!
