Palmetto Autumn

A palmetto bush turning colors in mid December. I was attracted to both the color an texture of the bush. Taken at the Naval Live Oak section of Gulf Islands National Seashore in Gulf Breeze, FL. I'm not pleased with the DoF in this; I guess I need to bump the aperature to f/22 or do a DoF blend next time.

D2X w/70-200 VR @ 200mm
1.3 sec. @ f/16 - MLU and mc-30 remote release
100 ISO
No filters
Tripod
Capture One 4, CS4, TK's Luminosity masks, Marc's web sharpening

Critiques, suggestions, and comments always welcomed and greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

I hope everyone in the Flora Gallery has a wonderful New Year!! :wavey:

Bill: Great to have you over here. Actually I think the DOF here is pretty good as it helps separate the main frond from the BG. The softness in the center does show up some on the larger version but it still looks pretty good to me. Well seen, composed and captured. >=))>

Great colors, and I like the lines and composition (and the subject matter).

Hi, Bill ! I really this with all the fronds seemingly going every which way while in fact having a lot of order and making a great design. That the one frond is speckled yellow is another plus. I don't see anything wrong with the dof. But then I probably would've tried some shots with less dof. The only thing I think could be changed for improvement would be to tone down some of the areas of white in the rlc. Let's see more of Florida's winter time !

Bill:
Really like the contrast of colors and the intersecting lines in this comp. The DOF looks okay. Agree with Catherine about darkening the bright areas.

I like this Bill - the layers and the perpendiculars in the composition. I actually think that more dof might have weakened that. No suggestions on my part.

Love the radiating lines and bold colors. Your comments suggest you would like more DOF....I agree if it is to bring some of the OOF areas in the golden palmetto into sharper focus (although a minor point, IMO). However, I wouldn't want to see the green any sharper as it would compete with the gold too much....if anything, having the green a little softer might be even better....??

I like this overall, Bill. When I was scrolling (work monitor!), I noticed that if I crop the bottom to exclude the large white bg ( almost square), I find that the image becomes a bit more dynamic/powerful with the criscrossing of the fronds. Nicely executed!
