Frosty Sunrise

A shot from yesterday morning up in the Austrian Alps. This shot is sort of a compromise to what I had initially planned. In the morning when I wanted to hike to my spot of choice, I found my jacket, cap and gloves looked away in a separate room and wasn't able to get them before the owners unlocked it at 7:30am. This meant that I had just 20 minutes to get to a decent spot before the peaks will be illuminated. I quickly snowshoed up the steep hill right behind the cabin and tried to get as far as possible.
This shot is stitched from 4 horizontal images. It show the highest peak of Styria (Dachstein) right in the center. I will definitely go there again this winter to get the shot I had planned initially.

Canon 5DMII, Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L@70mm, 1/13s-f/8-ISO100, Polarizer.

Thanks for all comments. Of course you have to look at the LARGER version here to see more of the details. If you want to see an even larger version you can go here ... http://www.andreasresch.at/upload/images/Krippenstein_Panorama_01.html

Lovely panoramic Andreas! The light on the peak is great and contrasts nicely with the cooler blues of the image. The larger versions are definitly even ebtter looking :toast:

Neat composition that needs to be seen larger. The colors look a little off somehow though. Cannot put my finger on it but it seems maybe a touch too cyan?

@Darren ... hard to imagine that this shot is too cyan as I intentionally went for a redish/magenta toning here which is on the other side of color balance. If somebody else sees that color shift I might double check my screen calibrations.

Very nice shot, Andreas. I just re-calibrated my monitor and it looks just fine here.

@Andreas, maybe not a cyan tone and might just be my monitor at the office but the larger version blues just did not look right somehow.

That is pretty amazing Andreas! Not something new, but heck, the end result matters and it really works great for me. Love the colors in particular and the nice subtle clouds. The larger version has an almost 3d-quallity. When you go again - let me know, I might manage to remove my *** from the sofa

Beautiful panoramic vista Andreas, the color and detail on the mountains in the large version is killer. Color on my monitor looks good, a little magenta but that's what you were going for. Nicely done.

Andreas,

This is absolutely gorgeous! I'm baffled why this hasn't received more comments. must be the time of the year and everyone's busy with family and stuff... I for one though just love this side to side and top to bottom. This will make an outstanding print. Congrats on a beauty! :toast:

Superb moment, Andreas! Simple, but very striking and effective. It puts me right there as it conveys the cold, but peaceful atmosphere.
