In Earth's Shroud
by Youssef Ismail
I was surprised to see that no one had posted a photo of last night's eclipse. So I started to process what I had. I did not get to see or photograph the moon in totality as I was working in between gaps in the clouds. This was the last image I captured and never did get enough of the progression to show a nice composite. I did however manage to get some exposures that showed some of the actual stars in the sky that surrounded the moon. This is a composite one for the moon and one for the star field.
Nikon D2x, 400mm f5.6, Moon at f5.6 0.7 sec ISO 200, Stars at f5.6 1.6 sec ISO 400.

23 commentsI did not think I would see it at all. It was cloudy all day long here and with some rain. At 10:00 in the evening I looked out to see stars in among the clouds. By the time the eclipse had started the moon was in the clouds. Then just before totality the clouds parted and the moon played hide and seek with me for about 40 minutes before a huge cloud moved in and put the rest of the show to rest.

Nothing but cloud cover here in NH.
The last time I saw a lunar eclipse with such a red color was from the summit of Sentinel Dome in Yosemite many beers ago.
We had a thick cloud cover here is the Sierra, so I did not get to see this one. Thanks for sharing the spectacle!

Great shot and nice processing!

Simple and beautifully executed. Not much to critique here. Glad you were able to catch a glimpse.
