A Common Tern carrying a Sand Lance back to a potential mate. You can see that the bird still has a wet face from splashing into the bay. From the same photoshoot as all the other Common Tern photos...

Nikon D300s 300 f4 + 1.7X TC HH
f/8
1/2500s
ISO 640
-.33 EC

Cropped to a 5X3 (about 65% of original), normal sharpening routine, CS5 27" iMac

Looks good to me as posted. Good wing position to show off the dark primaries.

The lance enhances the beauty of the image a great deal. Difficult bird to get detail on.

Excellent - fine detail and great whites.
A tough bird to catch in flight, especially with prey.

Love the flight pose Luke and how well this shows the dark primaries. The prey in the bill is great too. I like the simplicity, natural colors and the comp you used.

Nice Luke. I like the asymmetry of wings and tail and the lance is a great addition. Comp works well too.

Nice job Luke, I like the position of the wings and seeing both forks of the tail. Also great to see that catchlight in the eye on the larger version to distinguish it from the black cap. :toast:

Not an easy subject to photograph but you've done a terrific job on bringing out the feather details. Graham

Like your tern. Position of the wings gives a great view of each. I like the Lance-A-Lot
