Trying out new 50mmF1.4 lens on this lisianthus bud. In camera double exposure - first exposure illuminated by LED at the base of the flower to light up the dark center, second exposure ambient light.

CS5, vignette in bridge, TK luminosity mass, vivezia 2, USM.

D90 50mm F11 total exposure 5sec, iso200 tripod. Thanks for viewing and C&C appreciated.

Gary, this is awesome and very creative. How about a third exposure for the ULC; that would make this absolutely perfection. Has Tony come up with yet another technique?

Nice job.

W :eek: W Gary some try out! Really like what you have captured and how you processed the image. Great job. Only nit, a small one, would be to clone in part of the petal into the URC to fill the frame.

Very well done Gary. I agree with Bob about the upper right corner, otherwise just superb.

Stunning image, Gary! I love the swirling effect of the petal edges drawing me into the illuminated center of the lisianthus bud. This is awesome as presented, but I would be curious to see this just a touch lighter. Just a suggestion of course.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

@Carol, Bob, Pat
Looks like the vignette is probably a bit strong.

@Ed
I have actually bump up the exposure by 0.20 but could probably go a little higher.

Amazing composition with the pattern of the tips of the petals. It has a soft, soothing feel, too. Nice subtle illumination. Thanks for the details on how you made the shot.

A fascinating take on a flower not easy to shoot well, Gary. The composition has a striking abstract quality which works really well for me. Only wonder about a touch more exposure - though I am not familiar with the technique and I can see that some areas are quite bright. Whatever, I like this a lot.

What a beautiful work, Gary! Excellent the idea, superb the performance. I go on exploring the chiaroscuro of the light and the nuance of the colors. I appreciate the URC that gives an hint about the round shape of the flower. So it is more than a natural abstract. Really excellent image for me.
I wish you a splendid coming year, productive and happy.

Very creative use of lighting and exposure techniques. Agree with the comments to lighten slightly. Re: the upper right corner; it does appear a little empty and I think I prefer this with a crop from the right to remove that area. I've never seen a lisianthus....you've inspired me to visit my local nurseries in search of one. Happy Holidays!

Nice Gary, almost feels like a vortex the longer I gaze at it. The center light is awesome.

The two exposures are excellently blended to create this image. I feel the vignette is a little heavy for the light, but the lines are strong and the inside lighting takes this to another level!

Well done. Especially for a first attempt at something new. The repetition of the curving lines and framing are very effective. I lean towards the comments that prefer a tiny bit more exposure.

Gary: My first impression was an immediate "too dark." I don't see any values on the histogram above 185. I might not take the whites all the way to 255 but brightening significantly really gives this more pop which makes it more appealing to me. >=))>
