I live near Brazos Bend State Park in TX, so I have lots of opportunities to observe alligators. This was one of those very quiet moments, when not a sound was heard....just a slight, graceful movement in the water.

I cropped this "incredibly close" in order to emphasize the gator. He looked so nondescript amongst all the duckweed around him...just a "sea" of green

I don't know if I love the crop so much, but I love the color of the the duckweed against the gator. I'm like you, I never tire of viewing and shooting gators - beautiful creatures!

How's this? I only cropped it so tight to emphasize his snakelike lines.

It's certainly an interesting super-pano crop. I kind of agree with Bill that it seems a little tight, but I think you only need to open it up just a little bit, not as much as your repost. Also, it's a shame the end of the tail is clipped. Maybe you could add a tail tip digitally.

Great idea! I also love 'gators..from a distance!
I agree that a crop between the two would be ideal - a little picky, I guess!
Since the tail is cut off, it would be easy to clone in a bit of duckweed at the end to simulate the end of the tail.

Too cool, Lucy! I think the original crop is perfect (although one without the head would be extra weird...) :toast:
Hey, i just noticed your comment to post ratio is getting a bit low--with your obvious talent for composition im sure you can offer some valuable critique on others' posts

Very nice panoramic crop, it would be a very interesting thing to see once printed. I like the original version with the extreme crop.

Very cool photo and crop.
The only thing I would consider doing is adding a bit of canvas on the right so the tail doesn't leave the frame.
This is the 1st time I've seen a crop like this and I really like it!
