I had missed this angle of a neat little cascade and ice crystals, until just before leaving the other day. I only had my "basic" camera with me (H2), but still liked a couple of the shots. It was very dark down here, so the the image came out very blue at 1/8th. Color correction in Elements, along with some of the other processing things you folks are trying to get thru my head. Thanks for looking, C&C welcomed.

Put some more color back in and boosted the contrast.

Repost is much better. More vivid.

I prefer the repost, too, but the whites in the upper right and lower left got a little hot. I'd apply a mask to those areas in your adjustment layer.

Repost is much better Bill. It's kind of a busy comp, but there are many appealing elements here. The colors seem a bit strange to me though. The snow has a magenta/orange cast that I would try to correct if possible to make the snow appear white. What white balance temp did you use here?

The whites are hot in the repost, no doubt. As for the color, I'm not sure what you mean. I could have posted the original blue version, as I stated, all I did was a color correction, and then tried to get some of that blue back. Thanks! :toast:

Bill,

The repost certainly pops much better. Nice details in the ice with the larger version too.

I think you have a very interesting intimate scene here with just a bit too much extra stuff going on that I think diminishes the overall impact. I mean the patch of overhanging snow in the LLC and the sticks/snow in the URC. I'm sure you were either at a zoom end or physically were limited with options at being able to set up for the shot, so it's completely understandable. And not much can be done about the LLC corner - cropping it totally cuts in to the nice patterns of the cascade.

Excellent little scene Bill that I think could be a bit cleaner.

Lon, sometimes you really scare me. It's as if you were there when I was shooting this. Yes, zoom end about maxed with this camera, and yes, given the physical setup of where this stream is, and my mobility problems, there weren't many alternatives for comping it. And yes, the taffy pull-like patterns in the cascade were something I really liked and didn't want to leave out, and yes, the sticks, etc. were something I didn't like, but... at least I was able to clone out a few in the FG, something I couldn't have done a month ago.

So I think you are in California, but somehow your super lens converter allows you to see me shooting clear across the country in PA. Thanks, awesome critique as usual. :toast:

Bill, I like the cascade and ice formations. I was out shooting some of these myself. Your processing looks good to me, I might consider a crop of the RH side to almost a square comp to remove some of the distractions :toast:
