and Cottonwoods. I witnessed this event this morning. There were several Bald Eagles roosted in the Cottonwoods, but only one was in position for the pillar. I did try a few shots with the pillar off to the side of the eagle, but this was the best of the bunch. 7D, ISO 200, f/11, 1/50, 110 mm, small crop. C&C always welcome and appreciated.

Beautiful! The eagle may be small in the frame but adds so much to the story.

I really like how you composed this scene with the bald eagle and sun pillar.

Rob,

Terrific silhouette and having the eagle is a great little addition to the scene. My initial impression is that I don't think having the sun in the frame is really necessary. I mean the story is the silhouette, the great sky/clouds and the sun pillar. And I think a horizontal crop of this eliminating the would be a strong composition and actually bring the perched eagle more in to play. either way, an excellent silhouette and capture of this phenomena of light.

After reading the comments here, I tried a second version of the scene and posted a separate photo. After a couple comments on that photo, I revisited this image and am posting a new crop for consideration. Thank you.

I really, really like the crop! The eagle is such a wonderful addition. I like how it is small in size, but adds a major impact. Simply stunning!
