1/5
f/5.6
ISO 80
Focal length 16.5 mm
No flash
Handheld
My backyard in Northeast Florida
PSE8 levels, contrast, sharpening, removed background, cropped uneven space, extended canvas to form border

Is there a better way than cropping to make a smaller canvas for a smaller leaf? Feedback on that and anything else would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Barbara, I like this leaf a lot. The lighting, colour and the whites are perfect. I like how the leaf appears to be floating in air.
For my tastes, I would like to have a tighter image without so much negative space around the leaf. I might also rotate the leaf just a little to give more of a sense of free fall. But, that's just me. You've done a great job on this one.

Great job with this "weather coated" leaf, it must have suffered after the recent cold spell that dipped down into FL. I like the detail seen in the larger version and the "Floating" feeling against the dark BG!

I like this as posted Barbara, although I also like Bob's idea of rotating it. The space works for me as is and I particularly like the hook of the stem and the ice crystals on the leaf body. I probably would make the frame smaller but I like this very much as posted.

To reply to your question Barbara, to reduce the canvas on this (I assume you mean space around the leaf) without cropping, you would have just needed to move in closer.

I love the frozen crystals on the red leaf and the hook on the stem is particularly stricking, Barbara. Although I like this as is, a slightly tighter crop would get rid of some negative space and place more of an emphasis on the wonderful details of the leaf. Just a suggestion of course.

Barbara:
Another winner in your leaf series. Agree with Bob's suggestion of tighter crop.

This is an interesting image, Barbara! I also would like to see the leaf in a bit tighter crop, there is a lot of black now. :toast:

Barbara: My first impression even from the thumbnail was "tighter crop." I hadn't thought about the rotation suggestion but think that's also a good idea. If this is full frame you can indeed crop down to the 1200 pixel large image size and not lose any detail in a web presentation. That said, I do like this as posted and especially like the color and frost details. Nicely done.>=))>

Barbara, I so not often post in this forum but I did this evening and in doing so stumbled across your leaf. I like it very much and personally do not mind the negative space that you have here. This could have easily have been in the weekly challenge. Loved it.
