Pele's Breath

I've been lurking in these forums for a few years admiring the great stuff that gets posted here. I thought I would dip my feet into critiquing and hope I can contribute a little to this wonderful community.

Inspired by Justin's recent postings from Kilauea - this image was taken November 2009 following a strong year of activity from this area. This is a vent that opened earlier in 2009 in the Halemaʻumaʻu Crater. Taken around 2am, the vent was just barely glowing to the naked eye. A 30 second exposure allowed me to take advantage of the full moon and get a fantastic glow from the vent.

Thanks for looking!

Love what the 30 second exposure did with both the clouds and the vent. Fascinating scene to stare at.

I like the feeling of the scene. The way the smoke trails of to the right adds to the image. I stood on this crater a few years ago, unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) there was no real activity.

Looks like a tough exposure to get right. I really like the stars picking threw. That glow around the vent is awesome, really nice picture.Cheers

The darks may be a little too dark, but this is understandable with the image being shot at night. I really like the painted feel produced by the motion blur in this long exposure. Great job, Jason!

Unusual looking scene with the semi-blurred clouds. I really like this.
