Lava Fire

While I think this isn't as strong as my previous lava image posts - lacking an abstract quality that I prefer, I am drawn to the story telling aspect of this image.

Thanks for the C & C's as always!

Definitely tells a story, not quite as striking a composition as the others but a fascinating image nonetheless. This reminds me of a dragon's tongue. As if such a thing exists...

Hi Justin,

The bad: I'm officially jealous and speechless.
The good: I'm behind a keyboard so nobody notices if I paused for 5 minutes between my first line of text and the second.

This is a fantastic image that I'd love to be able to take some day, the fire of the lava, the rocks and the wood are a extraordinary combination and your execution of this fantastic composition is flawless.

Another very strong and unique shot. Just a bit curious about what I'm seeing . . . is the lava actually coming into contact with the wood, or is the wood some distance above it? It looks like there's a gap, which really tells you something about the heat coming off the lava.

I echo Luis' jealousy and thoughtful typing style! I think the story here is very intriguing and while I agree that from an artistic standpoint I prefer your abstract lava images, this one is powerful and worthy in its own right! The textures are exceptional, Justin.

Thanks for the great comments!

Phil - There's a slight gap, the wood all around us went to flames pretty quick!

Great series Justin! I am really enjoying your unique suject and perspective. Even thought not as abstract as your previous lava images, it does tell a story and it is strong in it's own right.

Another beauty Justin - these images have just knocked me out - I love them. Your first was the best, but this is really nice as well, just in a different sense. I would love the opportunity to see and photograph this!

More document than art but still a worthwhile shot to explore.

These images are almost frighteningly (that's a tough word to say or spell) beatiful (oops). The amount of black here seems a bit much. Cropping some seems to focus a bit more on the story.

Great Shot Justin. The difficult part of shoot lava is the extreme hot spots. Sometimes you can't get away with it. Excited to see more of your images from Kalapana. By the way, we are definitely planning to do workshop/tours very soon. In the planning stages. Spread the word Please. Aloha, Tom Kualii

I agree with you, Justin... It's the story telling aspect that makes this one. This is well composed though and those colors pop nicely.

Such great detail throughout. Man, those shapes are so unique and the red/orange/yellow combo against the black is hot!
