The Eagle Tree

This was taken while floating down stream in a boat on the Harrison River BC, Canada. We were taking photo's of the eagles that show up to feed on the spawning salmon. We had a record Sockeye run this year and in this very short stretch of river about 1.2 million fish spawned this year. Every year hundreds of eagles gather in this area alone to feed on them. An awesome sight to see!
Many eagles use this tree as a perch, I was waiting for the sun to come through the clouds to light up the tree and the mountain in the background.

Camera Canon EOS 7D
Exposure 1/2500 sec
Aperture f/5.6
Focal Length 250 mm
ISO Speed 400

This is eerie and very cool all at the same time. Fantastic cloud mass.

Really nice! I'd like to see something like that someday. I've seen a similar situation with rookery trees for herons and egrets. But the eagles take this to another level, IMO.

The large version of this is wonderful! The thumb hardly does it justice. I like how the flying eagle ties the tree to the mountain in the distance.

Very dramatic! Your wait for the light paid off handsomely.

Score….
I like the mood and the light.
We don’t get too many shots with animals included the picture in the ESS gallery, so this is a treat!
Was it possible to get the water in the pic? I guess it probably made the tree too small when including the water in the frame.
