Northern Saw-whet Owl

Taken at Wingmasters, a rehabilitation facility located in Leverett, MA. They have eagles, hawks and owls which have been injured and rehabilitate them, if possible, for release back into the wild. Those who cannot be released are cared for and used in teaching programs at schools, etc. Used Canon 7D, with 100-400 IS lens.

Comments always welcomed.

Lovely detailed view of the face of this owl, Patricia. You don't mention your aperture setting. Looks like the DOF is limited to the face (and toes). I'm not sure if more DOF would improve the shot or not. Having the body in sharp focus might detract from the face.... :toast:

Wonderful shot Patricia. Great detail in the face and while I normally would like to see more detail in the feathers I like the selective DOF in this shot with just the face and eyes being sharp. It adds a nice soft effect to the image.

The DOF on this shot works to emphasize the bird's wonderful face. Nice and sharp with good detail in that area. Given the direction the bird is looking, I may have positioned the bird more right in the frame.

I love these little guys and this one's intense stare. I do wish for more DOF on this as well as the face feathers look a bit oversharpened.

Immaculate detail. And what a pose-- that little face right in my face grabs my attention but good! Love the intensity.
