1D Mk iv, 600mm f4 x1.4, 1/200s, f5.6, iso 800. Overcast, sun breaking through white cloud, no wind.

I was hoping a bird would land on this, but it didn't and I'm glad because it would have looked a bit silly! It's a straight shot by the way, not concocted in photoshop and nothing artificial. I suppose it was accidental, but I like the result anyway! I don't do flora!

I like the total effect, the subject, dof and colors. What did you do to get the center line and the opposite colors in the background? If the colors were not reversed I would have assumed you flipped the image.

Patricia - thanks for the comment

What did you do to get the center line and the opposite colors in the background?

I'm going to let this run for a wee while to see if anyone works it out. It's bedtime over here, so I'll answer in the morning

I really like this Ian, its outside of the box. The subject itself is very interesting, and I think I have the reflection and the middle line figured out since I look at one everyday. The opposite colors are carried by light coming from that direction, but I'm not sure how you got such a clean background? Indoors?? Thought provoking :toast: :toast:

Well this is interesting Ian. Not a clue as to how it was done. I'm looking forward to the explanation.

Ian, great graphic design and lots of awesome detail.

A bird would have been a real plus.

Ciao ;^)

OK, here's what happened! Firstly, it is easier to appreciate if you rotate the image 90 degrees. The foreground is an elevated small pool, which had frozen and was just thawing. There was no wind so there was a mirror like finish on the surface. The water is kept topped up constantly, so that it trickles over the edge, creating the transition line. The hazel is simply placed behind the back edge of the pond, in the hope that a bird would land on it, attracted to the feed on a small table just below the edge. The very long focal length has created the diffuse background, reflected in the thawing ice. The lens was set almost at water level. Unintentional, but I might experiment further!

Very intriguing and creative; nice colors and a strong image. If it was Photoshopped...it would have had equal separation from the line in the V formed by the stem...the reflection is on the left I'd guess.
