You Wanted A Hit

....but maybe we don't do hits.

Yeah, not many of you will get the title and that's ok. I have recently been immersing myself with music and one of the bands I am stuck on is LCD Soundsystem. They have a new album and the title here is from that album. This one particular song's meaning, at least to me, is a response to another song on the album that they created to please their record label, changing their style a bit by making it more suitable to the masses.... not a long song, more catchy, etc. They seem to say, "Here's your hit song. We really don't do hits and we feel it's kinda weird. "

That's the background behind the title in a nutshell. How does it relate to my images? Well, I traveled to Zion a couple weeks ago to shoot fall colors there. My small group hit the Subway, the Narrows... although I decided not to go....the east side of the tunnel, Taylor Creek in the Kolob Canyons area, and some smaller, lesser known canyons outside of the park. Lots of great scenery with some nice fall colors in some areas. I think I went there trying to make a hit, trying to find that large view with amazing skies, large sandstone walls, fall colors all over, etc. However, none of that really made sense to me when I arrived. Instead, I had more fun and felt more comfortable slowing down and just taking it all in... finding fall color in the shadows of the bigger scenes. Maybe the fact that we had mostly bald blue sky helped, or I had simply wanted something different. Regardless, it felt right and I had fun.

Hope this all makes sense... or not

Jimmy,

Sorry, I don't know anything about current music (even though I'm a musician, too), but I do know this image is a fine symphony!

Jimmy,

Great eye and great find! It must have been tricky to get the leaf to stay there after placing it under water.

The ripples seem to be emanating from the leaf. A wonderful, intimate scene.

My only nit is to make the purples more blue.

Lon, I'll make sure I document how to place leaves underwater  All joking aside, I found this scene as is. When I get home tonight, I'll take your purple to blue suggestion and run with it.

Pretty well Jimmy,

Some people take something and make nothing, others make something out of nothing. They are called creative and artists. This image is just well creative.

There definitely is merit in searching out the unique, the creative, the intimate. This might not have the immediate impact of a wider, grand view, but I often come to appreciate this type of shot, especially as time goes by.

I really like this Jimmy. The steaks of blue almost look like claw marks. I like the mix of blue and yellows as well. Well seen and captured I say.

Bands/musicans that don't do hits in an attempt to stay true to thier artistic identity usually don't make any money!!!!!!!! Nothing wrong with that, just the truth of it. I think I'd rather complain about being a sell out on my way to bank.

But I totally relate to your story and mood from the day. And sometimes it results in little gems like this!

I like this very well, Jimmy. I could see cropping a bit of the dark area off the top, but this is every bit as enjoyable as the other stuff from Zion that is so much more predictable.
