The Gift of Light

I have been in the Southwest for the past 2 weeks now leading a tour and shooting in Zion and the sandstone in and around Page, AZ. This image was captured on the banks of the Virgin River looking towards the Patriarchs. The light show was quite amazing and I felt quite blessed to be in this place under such amazing conditions.

2 exposure blend in PS4. Processed on my laptop on the road, will reprocess at home upon my return late next week.

Thanks for having a look, Joe.

You too?? MAN! I now know 3 people who shot the Patriarchs that morning. I really do HATE you. I was there for 6 days in a row last year and got NOTHING. I'm stealing your memory card next time I go east.

A remarkable scene, colors and light! The greenery is a fine counterpoint to the overall reds.
The small break in the river creating those currents is a wonderful lead in to the scene.
Perhaps doing something with the bright bit of foliage just right of center would lessen a minor distraction.
This is how I would imagine the River Styx to appear. Brilliant work!

Fantastic Light!!! I would suggest a minor lightening and detsaturation of the image. Thanks. Joe.

A glorious lightshow! Gorgeous image, and the only nit I see is a very slight haloing around the peaks, which you can easily fix when you get home. Just fantastic work! :toast:

It was an incredible morning! Just missed you in Zion, glad your tour is going well! I like this take with the river holding that intense sunrise glow. I don't think there's much you need to do in terms in processing when you get home, it looks great!

Very nice, great comp and colors (maybe lighten the image a tiny bit-but it could be my laptop). Is this upriver from the Patriarchs? I was there last week and I think I missed this light by a day or so. I really like the water flow/pink reflection contrast leading in to the scene.

Wonderful comp and light. Looks a little dark on my monitor, but that may be intentional to emphasize the colors or just the laptop screen.

Wonderful light. My eye keeps going back to the white in the river, but I really want to look at the sky and cliffs. I would crop off half that white. Also does feel a bit dark to me.

Sweet shot Jow - love the color and overall drama - processing looks great too. My only nit is a personal one - I wish the shutter speed had been faster so as not the completely blur the water. Other than that, great shot!
