Radiated Glow

I'm never sure whether to make the dark side of the rock light with a shot like this. I quite like it just showing enough texture so it doesn't look like just a shape but I'm interested in opinions.

Nikon D700
16-35@ 16mm
f16 .3sec ISO100

btw, thanks to Andreas for his sharpening script, I'm quite a fan of that one.

A stunning shot Andrew! I like the rocks just the way you've left them with just the hint of detail. After all the sun is directly behind them and a silhouette is expected. I love this comp and the curving cloud is just wonderful. Image sharpening is excellent, but I also heard the new 16-35 is a super sharp lens. Top shot!

I love the arrangement of the clouds placed perfectly in the composition. One minor suggestion is to pull back a tiny bit on the greens to make the sky just a little more red.

Its the clouds that caught my attention first. Then noticed how they mimic in shape the glow behind the main rock. Very cool.

What Youssef said.
Those clouds add so much grace to an already beautiful scene.
Just the right amount of detail in the rocks, too. Excellent work!

Love the shape of the clouds above the scene, along with a wonderful mimic of the amazing glow. Very well done!

Really like the shape of the clouds and the color is very nice. The detail in the shadowed rock looks good to me.

Very weird, but in a unique and awesome way. Nice eye for the comp. Only way this probably would have worked.

If you like trying different sharpening techniques, you may want to look into luminosity sharpening. It's pretty sweet.

The tiara of clouds really makes this, I think. The rocks looks very natural given the sun is directly behind the big one.

Very interesting shot - the rock, sunlight and cloud are are features to make up this image.
