Fleeting Moments

Tay Forest, Perthshire, Scotland

After a morning of rain and heavy clouds, I noticed a section of forest glowing with some very soft light. It lasted a few minutes and I was able to quickly fire a couple of frames before the light became dull again. As might be expected the small version suffers heavily from compression so check out the large one.

Canon 5DMkII, 24-105mm 4L.

Whoa. This is real nice, very painterly. Did you get any without the stuff in the immediate fg? How about any panos of the trees?

I love the rich colors in the foreground Kah Kit and the contrast of the tree trunks. The pastel tapestry in the backgroud really makes this special.

Spectacular light and wonderful mix of colorful contrasts. I just love the rusty colored ferns beneath the trees. Have you considered cropping out the green fg foliage? It feels a bit chaotic to my eye. IMO the shot has much more impact as a square or possibly horizontal 4 x 5 comp with the fg greens cropped.

Not crazy about the immediate foreground, but the rest of the image is awesome.

My kind of shot Kah Kit, fantastic image! Everything is superb but I would love to see a version without the green foliage in the foreground.

Very cool scene Kah Kit. You and Winnie get around don't you? ;]

I have enjoyed viewing this much. The vertical lines above push into that vibrant under brush.

Wonderful texture in the trees. I particularly like the color combination between the bg and mg too. I find the brighter green of the fg a little intrusive though.

Wow, the eye can wander forever through this. So much detail and so many areas of interest. Great job, scenes like this aren't easy. I also think a crop without the foreground would be very nice too.

Skillfully composed and well presented, Kah, though not one of my favorites of yours.

Oh man! I love the colors and texture here. Great detail and sharpness as well. The trees also seem to be well spaced (always seems impossible for me to do), which makes the composition perfect IMO.

Kah Kit,

This is just wonderful, I love it. One of the first things that came to mind was the old saying, "can't see the forest for the trees." Well, this is opposite of that - You CAN see the forest for the trees. This is what I mentioned in my recent note to you. This image isn't necessarily about trees, it's about the "whole" and how everything works together for one impression.

I only have two other comments suggestions. I could see this without the foreground greenery, but it's certainly not a distraction - adds color, an anchor and one of the layers. Color wise, the "gray" areas in the far background are on the magenta side. But the more I look at it, I think all the colors blend well together, including that magenta.

You've captured this beautifully.

Lon

I absolutely love the more muted colors captured in the top 4/5's of this image. It still works very well with the included fg leaves, but man that bg and those beautifully arranged and textured trunks is just... well beautiful! This would make a great painting.

This is really nice. For my taste, it seems the bottom half an-inch (a little beyond your copyright note) could be done away with. That portion is a tad chaotic and too bright.
