The Winds of Autumn

Determined to achieve my "leaves in the wind" image! Shot this on Sunday in my neighborhood, as I've been keeping my eye on this particular tree for color. It really sings in backlighting. I waited for some good gusts and shot in burst mode.

Two image stack, D700, 105 micro, tripod, polarizer; f 8, 1/125. Shot at high noon!

Your thoughts and comments are welcome, as always. Thanks for looking.

gorgeous!!
love the sense of motion.
Not sure about those dark twigs in the middle right and upper right .. if it were mine, I might try cloning them out..
but just great as is.

I like this one a lot Catherine - a very fine capture and I think the exposure timing was perfect. Lots of interest for me in this although even though it has falling red leaves it doesn't have an autumn mood to me. I think that's because I tend to associate autumn with stillness and quiet. So I think this is also a very unusual and creative image. I might clone out the twig in the upper right corner but I'm not sure about that and I like the others. Superb image.

What a fun image! I really like the concept and with these vivid red leaves as your subject, what could be better. I would clone out the stem at UR for sure but what I'm less sure about is the amount of open blue bg at the bottom. I'd like to see one with a frame full of these beautiful fluttering maple leaves!

Wonderful vision of what you wanted and super results Catherine.

Beautiful shot Catherine. It must have been blowing pretty good to get that kind of motion at that SS. Im leaning toward Sandy's assessment of the twigs but an excellent piece of art regardless. Nice work. :toast: :toast:

I guess I'm in the minority, Catherine. The twigs don't bother me a bit. Thanks for inspiring me to go out and shoot even on a windy day! Love the colors and composition. Nice work.

Great capture, Catherine. Really conveys a sense of motion. I have no problem with the twigs, but i think I'd clone the object in the far URC.

Thank you all so much for your comments. I hear what you are saying about cloning, esp. in most urc corner. If I titled it better to say this was a BRANCH being blown around, would that change your advice any? Maybe not and that's quite fine; knowing it was a branch I thought it deserved some kind of "anchor."

My bad: this is a two image stack but silly me forgot to blend it!  In a couple days, when I can post again, I'll put the blended image up so you'll have what I intended the stacked image to look like. Oh, brother...

Beautiful reds, Catherine. I agree with Sandy's comment on the dark red twigs. I think they have to go, and then I think you'll have a winner.

Very nice "art photo". Catherine you have very well managed to freeze the motion in the wind. Excellent work.

Catherine, its true that we both have captured the wind, but your wind paints much better then mine. Splendid photo. I love it.
Take care
