Young female snail kite that wondered into our local Wetland Area!
Photo taken in mid-afternoon during an approaching cold front. Wind was blowing rather hard and the dust was a flying!

200-400mm Nikkor F4 lens with 1.4x t.c. (420mm)
ISO 400
Aperture F5.6
Shutter 1/3200
EV -1/3

Love those tallons! You did well with the detail under the wing with mid-afternoon light.

Great wing position and it shows the hooked bill real well too. I tried all last winter to get something this good, bbut never made it. Congratulations.

I like how you caught him ascending against the wind, you can see him straining to advance. Good detail in the underwing. I like the hint of blue sky, far more interesting than a single color. :toast:

I like the position of the bird Eric and the nice sky behind.

The slightly upward flight path of the bird with the kite also looking up really appeals to me Eric. Nice look at those unique talons and beak.

I love flight shots of raptors. I have been trying for three months to capture some here in Southern California. This is what I would like to achieve. You have captured a lot of the features of this bird. Good job.
