Red-tailed Hawk

Shooting has been slow in our usual haunts so this week we headed west to scout out some new territory and found quite a few red-tails and a few Ferruginous Hawks. Background is the side of a mountain.

7D,1/2000, f/7.1, ISO 500, 500 f/4, 1.4 tc, shot from pickup window on 11/2/10, small exposure adjustment in ACR, cropped to 87% of original image, sharpened bird and perch, reduced brightness of perch slightly, no additional processing or adjustments, natural light, not set up or baited

Nice IQ Ron. Love the pose and the BG. Great detail in the bird in the larger image. I would have thought that 1/2000s would have been enough to stop the wing tips and get them sharper, but that is no nit, just an observation. Well done as usual.

Excellent pose, I really like the uplifted wing, you caught him at the perfect moment to your credit. He looks a bit thin, or perhaps just a young bird. ? :toast: :toast:

Excellent capture Ron, there's nothing wrong with this picture..
Except that it's not mine
I see them here, but haven't managed to get close enough yet. The other day I spotted one picking at some fresh road kill at the side of the road. I pulled off & could only watch, no cam :frown:
It was about 25 yards away, well within shooting range.
As it flew up and away I blinked a few frames off anyway

Excellent! The raised wings make it so much more dynamic than most perched raptor shots. :toast:
