The Feather

by Keith Bauer

Gallery: LandscapePosted November 3, 2010821 views30 comments
I was out photographing birds when I saw this abstract scene. The feather was floating on the water. The gold reflections were from foliage on the bank of the water. I waited for the feather to float into one of the gold strips. This is about 60% of the full frame.

Techs: Canon 50D, ISO 320, 100-400 @ 400mm
1/800 @ f/9

Noise reduced, selective cloning of a few spots in the water.

Great eye riddle, Keith.
I especially like the movement and the multiple feather reflections.
Well executed!

Keith,

Absolutely delicious! The curves are very sensual and evocative. I also love the secondary reflection of the feather in the lowest ripple.

Keith! This is fantastic! Love it that you waited for it to be in the "right" position according to what you visualized. The shape and texture of the little feather floating on the velvet blue and gold is exquisite.

I was not too thrilled with the thumbnail, but the larger version is amazing. A shot hard to get right but you did it. Really unique work Keith!

Great idea and well caught! I really enjoy the balance of detail and softness captured here. I might prefer a slight crop off the top (just below the blue in the URC) to make all the bands one continuous shade of color. Well done!
