Wish I had such balance. My favorite bird fishing spots are always backlit in the mornings. Makes for some tough shooting, but why not go for a challenge?

Wayne, backlighting can make for some really dramatic images, but I agree with you, it also makes things much more challenging exposure-wise. IMO you did very well here. I like the sun coming through the far wing and the overall feel of this image. Snowys really are amazing how the feed on the wing. As for the comp, the bird's head is pointing back toward the LRHC so leaving more space behind the bird would seem correct, but for me, I would have to play with some alternate crops to see which I like best. No matter, because it is what you prefer that matters most.

Great timing and a good job on the exposure. White birds on black BG's are tough. Well done.

A heckuva moment you captured here Wayne. The light play all around is very interesting and you even got some light in the eye. As far as comp goes I'm not sure what I'd do here with the bird sort of looking right but going left. This probably works as well as any for me. The larger version was fun to see.

I like the extreme action pose, the water droplets, and the prey in the mouth.

Backlighting is so sweet when you get it right! Great capture of the action. I like the water drops and the light coming through the wings and the fancy footwork.

Wayne,
you got a terrific action shot. I really like how the light shines through the wings and the effect of the brilliant water droplets against the dark background. The prey in the mouth is a bonus.

Great exposure, I shoot the same area and it's really tough in the morning, shooting into the sun, you really have to get angled down to knock down as much sun as possible. Really like the suspended water drops off of the rear feet.

Gorgeous action and lighting, Wayne. If I have a nit, it's that it feels just a bit centered, but I'd take a shot like this in my portfolio any day!
