Rise & Shine

During a crisp, cool morning a few weeks ago, I came upon a small pond/lake nearby that was fogged over just nicely as the sun was coming up. First shot of the day, I used a polarizer at ISO-100, 1/1,600th at f-11.0. I played around with MANY versions of this, lighter FG, cropped more, etc... and came back to this, much closer to the original, as I like the split vertically and the "darkness into light" created. But that's just IMHO!

Larger posted too, thank you for comments/critiques.

Saw this kind of square off crop as I was scrolling down the larger image and it just caught my eye--changed the contrast and brightness a bit too. ??

Sweet light and fog, I think I'd crop about 1/3 off the bottom, oops just scrolled down to see your second version, better I think. Better yet might have been to walk over to the pond and shoot without any of the field.

Thanks Kurt, I did walk closer, and I did try a crop without any field... just seems like the contrast (as least some) of the field and water/fog/light add something, to my eye anyway.

Nice photograph Bill. I like the rays of the sun that are created by the fog along with the detail and color you managed to get in the grass. Looks like a tough shot to me, shooting into the sun and you managed the exposure very nice.
I just noticed your square crop before adding my comment. I like the original vertical more, it seems to add more foreground for me (my eyes at least) to walk through the image to the shoreline.
