We started the photography portion of our trip to Virginia today by cruising down Skyline Drive in Shenandoah NP. Talk about a subject rich environment! The autumn color is spectacular and we also had clouds rolling over the mountain sides. I had a lot of fun looking for extractions from the larger scenes and playing hide and seek with the light and fog. Found this old snag seeming to stand guard over this portion of the forest. All comments welcome.>=))>

Tree, foliage, fog. What a great combo, Bill. I like the shimmering silver of the old tree trunk very much.

Thanks for posting this.

Love this one Bill. Technically perfect of course but it's the mood that really appeals to me and the subject. As fine an image of a tree as I recall seeing.

Lovely Bill, and the fog gives it a really nice feel. It all goes together so nicely.

I love this tree Bill, the fog leaves my eyes peering closer and trying for a clearer look at the old tree. Wonderful combo, have a great trip with many more like this.

Hey Bill, welcome to my neck of the woods. Haven't been on here much lately; didn't know you were around. My work place is about 15 minutes from the park with my home about another 25 minutes or so away. I was just up on Skyline Drive this past Wednesday. Great shot; love the mood. Hope you're enjoying your visit to the great state of Virginia.

Wow..That seems like some good fog there, Bill. Love that misty feel in front of what seems to be a solid strong trunk of a large tree.

Yellows from the leaves certainly scream Autumn

Bill:
Looks like heavy fog here. The only time I get this effect in the subtopics is bringing my camera to the humid outdoor from an air-conditioned room :frown: Like the solid tree trunk in the center with splash of yellow all round.

Bill, one must look at the larger photo to fully appreciate this photo. There it is clear the role of the fog and one can admire the splendid texture of the trunk. Splendid.
Cheers.

Hi Bill :wavey: Being a tree hugger, i think it's marvelous to see tree captured beautifully like this. Is this my imagination? or is this old snag a dead tree ,with no bark, surrounded by branches of another tree.? Dead or alive it.s a superb composition
