Moss Glen Falls

After seeing Joe Rossbach's recent take I thought I would post mine. I arrived the first week of October and all the foliage had fallen from the trees. I was pretty disappointed until I found some swirly opps.

I used many different shutter speeds and assumed I would end up with a 20-30 second as a keeper. It turned out I liked this 4 second exposure best. It provided enough texture and form in the leaves to provide more interest.

Canon 7D, Canon 10-22mm, ISO 100, f/16, 4 sec.

Thanks in advance for the C&C's!

Great capture Justin. I've never seen this image with so many leaves. I like the perspective and the leaves add a nice touch of color to the comp. This is about 30 minutes from home. Great capture. Let's see more of your trip to VT. if your in the area again next year, look either myself or Kurt Budliger up. Love meeting new photographers. :toast: :toast: :toast:

The comp is nice and whether they're on the trees or in the water, the color of the leaves is great. The shutter speed here make for an interesting image.

Excellent composition. the llittle patch of color in the ULC balances the frame very well. I agree the texture in the leaves are an interesting element. Nice shot all around. :toast:

I love the slight movement of the leaves especially juxtaposed with the stability of the foreground rock which by the way seems to have been perfectly composed.

The color contrast, movement and composition make for a very strong image.

Yep, really nice shot. I love how the leaves wrap the foreground rock. Lovely colour throughout, great shot.

Wonderful color and motion Justin! The falls look great too. I am wishing to see a closer image of them because of the green on the left at leaves on the right. Beautiful!

That's a nice perspective! So different looking a place than with the frontal approach(that I also like a lot). A wonderful blast of color contrast too!.

This reminds me of artistic work by Andy Goldsworthy. The bottom half of the photo nearly stands alone without the falls.

Justin,

I just love the dreamy look of the falls here. Kinda contradicts the mesmerizing mass of motion in the leaves, but certainly makes for a bold and interesting combination. I really like the rich color and contrasts here.

To be honest though I'm not completely sold on the composition. I know that the intent was to include both the falls and the pool of leaves. But in order to do that, at least from this perspective, was to push the falls slightly to the left and include the rock wall on the right. Fortunately there is detail in the rock wall, but I find it a little dark and heavy. But to be fair, it doesn't kill the image and I'm probably just being way to nit picky....

Kudos on a completely different take on this place. The floating leaves are super.

Lon,

Thanks for the feedback on the comp, I did everything i could to exclude as much of the wall as possible. This was the best I could do with the options available. I agree 100 percent with your critique and appreciate your always thoughtful feedback.

Excellent, Justin. The elements here are all very strong, even the darker ones. This is really well done.

I agree with Lon Overacker. The falls almost feels like an after thought. Have you tried cropping just above the large fg rock? Just a suggestion.

The contrast in colors from the leaves to the area around the falls is great! Lots of impact with this one. :toast:
