Found this at Conkle's Hollow in the Hocking Hills of Ohio. I've always struggled with ferns and this one really caught my eye! Thanks for viewing! - Vince

Nikon D700
Nikkor 24-70mm - @70mm
F22 @ 1/6 iso800 (bumped up due to some windy conditions)
Lastolite reflectors - one to block wind coming in from camera right and the other (gold/silver) to add a bit of fill.

Fantastic, Vincent  . Good call on using reflector to fill in. Great texture from the tree trunk and moss and superb geometry from the fern.

Well done, Vincent. I like the texture and moss on the stump. I'd be very tempted to turn that fern into a plain off-white with no hint of fading.

Great job.

Excellent detail in this. I also like the textures in the log and the lichen. Nicely seen.

Excellent.
I like how the curve of the fern follows the curve of the wood. The white of the fern is remarkable.

Vincent:
Great eye for seeing this. Strong flowing lines in the stump mirrored by the lie of the fern. Wonder how this would look if the fern was flipped vertically so that it intersect the stump lines to create some tension - just a thought.

Really nice image. Is it the reflector that's giving the log that metallic sheen? Whatever it is, it's very cool. Great contrasts, composition is spot on. Well done. :toast:

Thanks Everyone! @ Bruce - the silver/gold reflector can give a metallic look depending on the surface. I'm starting to notice very interesting features with different types of bark and how the shimmer to certain types of light - might be the resin/texture combination in the bark. I use a small 12" lastolite soft gold/silver to pop a little fill in when needed and about a 20" diffuser.
