Sunset over Cheyenne

Bottoms, central Kansas. I took this on Monday, right before sunset, as 2 storm systems came together at sunset. This is a crop from a multi-image merge. While noticeable in the field, it wasn't until I merged the separate photos that the dramatic blue/orange division really popped out to me. I chose to center the crop at the point where the blue and orange meet. 7D, f/11, 17mm, 1/160, ISO 400, multiple images. C&C always welcome and appreciated.

That's a bizzarre photo, Rob--pretty cool! If you're ever in the real Cheyenne, and you like vennison, i can recommend a good eatery...

Very cool. Especially the separation of the two areas.

Love how the sky is almost split in half. Very nice...

Rob,

This one is indeed quite fascinating. Without any other information it certainly would cross my mind that this was some sort of composite image. But I guess sometimes things just happen this way in nature. Really weird, but now you have this forever. Wild.

Fascinating, the line in the sky is just so straight, such a strong delineation. Nice work.

Well I certainly didn't think I was in Kansas anymore for this image. I thought it was an ocean from the thumb. It looks neat. Is the blue/orange thing a white balance thing? I'm guessing not because at some level, this looks natural. It's just the presentation that has me head-scratching, which is generally a good thing.

Very interesting Rob! At first I thought it was an ocean as well. I seen something similar on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.

Thanks for the comments everybody. Cheyenne Bottoms is a major wetlands, with a number of pools of water. This was taken over Pool 1, which is the largest pool. Tony, no white balance trickery; things just came together and I kept the same white balance for all of the images.

Love those clouds and the crazy color. The divided sky is weird, but in a good way. It certainly makes this image stand out from a regular sunset image.

Rob, this is unique to say the least. Almost looks as though a ND filter was pushed in from the left side. The definition line in the sky is very pronounced and so very straight at that point. Wild capture on this one that's for sure.
