Kebler Pass

This was taken in the late afternoon in late September near Kebler Pass outside of Crested Butte, CO as the shadows were beginning to climb the hillside. Since the sky was cloudless, I decided to shoot with the stronger light to bring out the aspen colors, rather than wait towards sunset with light on only the peaks. I am unsure about the bottom shaded part, but left it as I thought it would act as a border possibly holding the colored patches of trees together.

Nikon D90, 18-105@92mm, f/8, 1/160sec, -1.0e, tripod.

Nice fall image. The colors and lines of the trees work well.

Nice one, Doug--i think theres enough pleasant detail in the bottom here that the clouds are not really needed.

Doug,

Excellent autumn landscape from the Rockies. I think you did very well to allow the shadow creep at the bottom as I like how it frames the scene. also, good choice in cutting down the blank sky. As a result, a great take-away for your fall outing.

I agree, you have presented this in the best possible way, without a great sky. Not to say that vibrant blue skies are not great! Wonderful waves of color here, that are what sets Colorado's mountains apart.

These are some rugged peaks, the fall forest underneath adds interest and the dark shadow line along the bottom of your comp works as a great natural frame!

Wow, some great color Doug. Also a nice formation in the background. Clouds would have helped but the color just draws you in. Nice work.

Great fall scene, Doug. I think you did well shooting it in this light. The aspens look very nice with this light and I also like the dark bottom edge. Very nice comp too. The larger version is very nice to look at and really shows it off much better. Like it!

The larger version dispels any of the reservations I might have had... it really showcases this scene beautifully. A very enjoyable image to study!
