Thanks for the comments on my last posted image.
Another shot from a couple weekends ago at Mowich. The sun was rising right behind this scene and Mt Rainier stared throught the treetops just to the right. I could have got it all with a wider composition but there was no color above the horizon, so I concentrated on the nice colors on and around this large piece of bedrock. I thought the grays and browns in the trees made for a nice bg. The swirling patterns in the reflection are what looked like long strips of tree bark on the bottom. Comments welcome, thanks for looking. Larger version included.

The large version really opened up this image to me and allowed me to see some of the more subtle details. I like the various sprinkles of fall color throughout the image. The trees that grow off from the rock are tough to discern and tend to blend into the trees in the background so I'm wondering if different lighting may help with that.

Bruce, the simple shapes and touches reds and yellow works for me. I would like to some more of the accent colors here just slightly. Also like the way you pulled some texture in the trees.

I really like the lines you captured; the way the diagonals come together to accent the vertical trees and the horizontal shoreline. I agree with Mike that the large version really helps, and with Steve that a little more accent color would make this sing.

Bruce,

A nice and well seen and captured image. I too like the lines and the symmetry as well. In fact, lacking in any more autumn color detail as mentioned, how about cropping the top some to make this image more about lines and symmetry? I don't see the upper part of the forest as contributing much to the scene and I think a pano might be a worthwhile alternative. Still, a lovely image and I have no nitpicks.

My first reaction was the same as Lon's--go 50/50 and crop the top. But, really, i think the problem here is that the yellow leaves are the main show here--they grab your attention immediately and hold it firmly--but the yellow is much too small in the frame. IMO, a much tighter comp would have worked better. It's a pleasant shot with some nice detail, but for this subject matter i think you have to go beyond what is 'pleasant' and shoot for what is extraordinary.
