Night at Schwabacher's

I set out to the Tetons and Yellowstone 2 weeks ago with a vision of capturing some of the icons with a new look. The fall colors were peaking and I had 5 full days w/o many clouds to work the night photography. Many sleepless nights later I have captured most of what I set out for!
Canon 1D Mark 3 with the 17-40mm lens all tripod mounted for 30 seconds at f4.5 and ISO 6400. Noise ninja used slightly in PP'ing.

Great shot. It's definitely worth a look in the larger version. The detail jumps out. :toast:

Amazing night sky shot!
Possibly an situation where a faster lens would have helped a bit.
Well captured

Thats pretty cool but man is it noisy, maybe ISO 6400 isn't the way to go... Its kinda strange how the stars in the reflection are smeared out like a longer exposure, but the stars in the sky are sharp - I assume thats due to some water movement?

Fascinating. What is illuminating the mountains and trees?

Pretty unique set-up. Even without the mountains, the star reflections add a lot of interest.

Neat shot. Shame about all the noise though.

Really nice , aside from the grain/noise. Exposure looks great, as do the sharp stars. I imagine some movemenmt in the water blurred them in the reflection.

Thanks all! I am on my laptop so didn't want to go to far with noise ninja......will give another round when I get home. Adam: the illumination is the moon.

The light on the Tetons is phenominal and so is the idea behind this image. The large version is much too noisy for my tastes, especially in the mountains. I just don't see 6400 being a worthwhile ISO speed on any digital camera right now. One technical note - the stars reflected in the water are brighter than those in the sky.

Hey All,
Just got in and saw this on my desktop.....you are correct that it needs more NR (I didn't run any on the mountains). I have many images at ISO 6400 with the mark lll......so just need to rework this. I have a few in my gallery at this ISO w/o the noise issues......last time I post from the laptop!

Beautiful night shot. I like how the fall color is just showing through the darkness.
