Nice catch! All the wading birds can and do swim, when needed - not very often though - or at least not photographed very often!
Nice techs here, and good handling of the whites.

Nice capture Harry. I don't think I have ever seen this bird swim before. Rare capture for sure. Beautiful job on the whites and the blacks! Nice reflection too. Would prefer to see a little bit of head turn toward you so as not to make the shot so static. Fairly sharp for such a large crop. Harry, was this in the first lake by the parking lot? I may see you this weekend if your heading Bolsa Chica. Cheers!!

Nice detail, Harry and good exposure. I've never seen one posted in this pose. Unfortunately, my personal encounters with the species can be counted on my thumbs.

Nicely documented behavior Harry and you did very well with the exposure. Neat reflection too.

I always see them around water, but don't think I've witnessed this either. Wonderful shot of a behavior seldom seen! Sharon

I like the reflection, and agree that the behavior is not one I've seen, even though BCNH are common here in the summer

Nice and interesting shot Harry,
I had never previously observed this behaviour in spite of having often seen and photographed these subjects.
