Standing above the Rest

Hello all...I haven't had the opportunity to post anything for the last couple of months just due to a hectic period in our lives with my own job and business picking up with my wifes company. I finally thought we had put enough work in and we needed to take some much needed vacation time. We loaded up the car and drove from northern Alberta down thru Montana, Zion National Park, Vegas and back up thru Mono Lake and Yosemity Park in California before heading home. I have to say I have a whole new appreciation for the north american landscape and what it has to offer. I'll have several images to post in the next couple of weeks. This image was taken in Zion National Park where the daytime temps were above 100F. (Some of the most incredible scenery I have ever witnessed). We only spent the afternoon in the park as we just finished a difficult couple of days on the road and still check into our hotel further down the road. We will definitely be back and stay in the park for a few days next time.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by for a look.

As always your comments and thoughts are welcome and appreciated.

Too bad the whirlwind tour resulted in such a short stay in Zion NP (one of my favorite places outside my home state). I like the pervasive warmth from the reflected light, and I wonder if moving the tree off from center might be an improvement (small crop from the right or bigger crop from the left).

Thanks for the comments Kent...I normally would have put the tree (focal point) on the third on one side or the other but in this case because there was such a difference in scenery on the left side vs the right side I decided to leave the tree in the center. I'm wishing I took more shots of this scene. We will be spending a lot more time in Zion next time.

This is very nice, Mark. It captures the spirit of Zion very well and I really like the warm light. Feels a bit underexposed on my monitor, but that adds some to the intensity of the color too.

The reddish light on the rocks blends perfectly with the greens. The texture is delicious!

Very nice light, and subject here. I do agree that the tree should have been put off center though. A 4x5 crop could do that nicely I think.

I think I would prefer the tree off center to. Beautiful image Mark with all those warm colors. Nice work.

It's nice seeing images that I've never seen before from popular photographic destinations. I agree with wanting the tree to be a little off center, but the image is beautiful as it is too.
