Great Blue Heron

I finally made id down to Ridgefield NWR yesterday, and it lived up to my expectations in terms of bird density. I do wish the weatherman had called it better as the light was rather dim the first hour. I liked this Great Blue Heron who kept dipping at the water-apparently not hunting.

7D, 500mm, f4 lens + 1.4TC, propped on a towel on the car window, f6.3, 1/200, iso 400, Av mode, no compensation, minor crop from the top and left for composition. Normal processing in CS4.

I always appreciate your comments and criticisms.

Thanks for looking,

Beautiful setting and I like the dof you chose, he seems to fit right into his natural surroundings. No nits. :toast:

Lovely habitat Dennis. I like the pose of the heron, the bit of yellow from the flowers and the comp you used.

Really nice Dennis I like the setting, comp and partial reflection. Ridgefield tends to get better as the winter goes along, although the weather not so much. :toast:

A very appealing comp Dennis. Great habitat and I too like the inclusion of the yellow flowers.

This all works very well for me Dennis. I especially like the setting and your DOF to show it off.

Looks like fantastic light Dennis. Very soft and muted the way I really like it. Great habitat shot as well. No nits from me on this one. Congrats.

This is terrific. The pose of the bird, the 2 "layers" of background veg, and the yellow flower, all with some nice soft muted lighting. Beautiful shot.
