I've taken shots like this which didn't come out as well - perfect handling of rim lighting

Wonderful pose, great lighting and love the circled tail !
I wonder if it is possible to bring out more details in the highlight area, where tail ends.

Hey John,
Nice simple composition and a good use of back-lighting - well done. I like the texture supplied by the bark on the tree and the detail on the squirrel. In a perfect world that background could be a little more uniform, but it's certainly not a problem. If the image were mine I think I'd experiment with shaving a little off the right side and reduce the amount of tree in the image, which would also pull the squirrel a little more out of the centre of the image...
Cheers...thanks for sharing this well-executed and appealing image...

I am late to the discussion, but wanted to add a ditto that this is a pleasingly dramatic pose!
