Jungle Garden (new version)

This is actually a garden in Bangalore, India. I liked the sense of looking through a curtain of vines into a brightly lit scene. I think the red plants help relieve the otherwise all green picture.

Panasonic FZ30

I messed with this a bit to try and tone down the highlights.

Thanks for sharing a kind of view we don't see here on NPN much - a jungle view that is. I love how the red plants stand out so well, and are frame by the rest of the scene. Overall the image looks a little soft, either because it is in need of some web sharpening, or because you were forced to use a relatively long shutterspeed and handheld?

Those red leaves go a long ways to give the eye something to land and focus on in this jungle scene. I also like the use of the vertical vines to enhance the jungle feeling. The highlights look pretty good considering the range of light captured here. I too agree with the overall softness as Floris mentioned. Nice work!

I tried sharpening it a bit. Hope I didn't overdo it.

I like the scene, especially the bottom half. Cropping some of the top seems to make for a stronger comp that focuses attention on the red leave and layers of light.

The red flowers really stick out nicely here. You could try to vignette the scene even more to focus on them a bit better.
As for sharpening - if you own Photoshop you can try my web sharpening script. Use it on the full resolution image to get the best result. Link is in my signature.

Andreas, thanks for the script. I used it and cropped a bit off the top as you and Tony suggested. I didn't want to lose too much of my vines though.

Hello. If my script produce this result - which still looks a bit soft - then the original might be a bit shaky I guess. That's why it's always good to have a tripod with you.

That final version is a great crop Simon. Floris is correct, we don't often get jungle views..
