Mystical

I took this photo while trekking along Ruby Beach in Washington with Marc Adamus. I tend to be more of a fauna guy, but who better to branch out with than Marc. It is a two exposure blend to get the water and the logs in focus and with good reflections. The water was moving enough to make it difficult to get a sharp capture of the floating logs. I thought it was a rather unique view of this heavily photographed location. All C&C welcome and appreciated.

Lovely, Anthony. I can definitely see Marc's influence in this. You're either a good pupil or he's a good teacher, or both.

Oh yeah, love the cool blues and other surreal colors here. The atmosphere was just awesome that twilight and the palette suits it well IMO.

Thanks Tony, your influence is most certainly in this one as well. Many of your techniques were used extensively.....so thanks go to you as well!

I am glad to here you like it Marc. I also felt that image had such a "mystical and fantasy like" quality I found myself really wanting to emphasize that with the colors as well. I should have posted the larger size so the few stars were more visible. Yeah, I am still looking at those shoes and the tripod I basically ruined and I am seriously procrastinating cleaning/fixing them from those 2 days in the surf. It was a blast!

Those twilight colors are great and I like how the mist separates the closer sea stacks from the offshore island (can't remember the name).

I love those deep, after sunset, colors. The comp works well with the "mystical" glow.

Loved the rich colours. Nice subtle details in the FG logs. Liked the separation of the small boulders from the far off larger one.

Thank you all, I am really glad to hear everyone likes the direction I took with the image. This is one of those that I liked somewhat when doing my initial sorting from the trip, but once I started working on it a little a began to see what was really there and I got very excited the more it progressed. I really love images with a surreal feeling in both color and atmosphere.

Thanks again! :wavey:

The colors are surreal. I like the composition and the leading lines the logs make. The one area I'm trying to make sense of is the center rock in the background. There's light near the bottom of it, but not the top. It appears it should be silhouetted. I guess I'm not understanding where the light's coming from.

Ron, The large rocks in the distance are sea stacks just off shore from the beach. There was this wonderful haze/mist that started to develop over the water around the big stack in the center. That mist diffused the light from the twilight sky which is what made this scene so special. It just added that extra glow and atmosphere to everything instead of just another silhouette.

Mist definitely holds quite a bit of light itself. In my RAW files from this evening the illumination of the misty areas which provided that great separation was quite evident. The mist was hanging quite low to the ground as it usually does over the ocean.

Yep, it shows that Adamus was close. Only in the sense that this has a little magic of it's own. :toast:

Anthony, sweet color. That mist behind the rock gives it an interesting ethereal feel.

The mist definitely gives the seperation of stacks, rocks, whatever. Nice job. Also, nice spot for a different view of this location, i recognized it immediately.

Very neat and unique view of Ruby. I love the leading lines, they really draw me into the scene. I wish the left log were not intersecting the seas stack reflection, otherwise great work!
